Attendance-to-payroll readiness: the controls that matter

A field guide to shifts, punch evidence, exception queues, cut-offs and the final review before attendance becomes payroll input.

7 minute read · Nebverse field guide
01

Establish the day record

Each attendance day needs a known shift, timezone, punch source and policy context. Exceptions should be explainable rather than silently corrected.

  • Use effective-dated shifts
  • Preserve original punches
  • Label weekly offs and holidays explicitly
02

Resolve exceptions before cut-off

Regularisation, remote work, overtime and missed punches need owned queues and final statuses. A pending request should not look identical to an approved outcome.

  • Set manager and escalation ownership
  • Retain comments and timestamps
  • Prevent duplicate or conflicting requests
03

Freeze with evidence

Before payroll consumes time data, review exceptions, lock the period and retain the approval state used for calculation.

  • Compare totals with the previous period
  • Protect locked periods from employee mutation
  • Record who released the input
